Applications
Applications of Wireless Connectivity and Technology
The application of wireless technology has grown significantly over the last few years. There are clear signs of the emergence of a virtuous cycle of growth which is being fueled by increasing functionality, the increasing numbers of wireless networks, rapidly expanding protocol options, growing numbers of manufacturers, release by the regulator of additional areas of spectrum, introduction by the regulator of spectrum trading to release unused spectrum, and reducing hardware prices.
The Mobile Operators are again ramping up their use of wireless technologies as they realise the benefits of high bandwidth connectivity that is relatively free from the penalty of linear pricing with connection distance. Mobile Operators are rushing to take advantage of increasing data delivery through mobile phones before competing data services are installed. Current mobile network backhaul is inadequate to cope with the desired rapid take-up by consumers.
The Fixed Carriers are realising that wireless technology allows them to offer alternative last mile SDSL connectivity options to their customers, better ways of providing bandwidth to Exchanges to support the growth of DSLAM installations, improved options on assured resilience through combinations of technology and geographic routing, to enter new markets with new services such as connectivity to mobile field workers such as NHS workers, Social Sevices staff and 'Blue Light' clients.
System Integrators and Outsourcing Specialists recognise that wireless communications solutions to customer requirements for updated single applications (such as Voice, Data, Video, Telemetry, CCTV etc) offers them the ability to install a single powerful IP converged network that opens up the customer to a much larger network application, and all the services which can be up-sold to maximise use of the new facility.
ISPs and other Service Providers are realising that the alternative commercial model afforded by wireless technology is immensely powerful and provides a lower cost base which then enables wider network reach and more revenue to be captured from higher subscriber numbers. Wireless solutions from SIAE UK can be sold as a one-off Capital cost with ZERO recurring bandwidth costs. This provides Service Providers with a future price determinism that is just impossible through conventional leased line solutions that not only cost year after year, but are susceptible to price increases.
